My name is Ebru Karpuzoğlu. I am an Ass.Prof. in Bilgi University and I am a consultant about family company and management. At the same time, I am a professional speaker, a board member and a coach for successors. I do some researches and write articles and books. I would like to describe myself as hardworking person, keen on learn and easy to work with. I have a long-term perspective, I think strategicaly.
I gained a lot of experiences in different fields. I am open to share all the things that I have learned in Turkey with others. I would like to get to know different cultures and share my experience with other countries.
I am teaching at Bilgi University. My major area is management and organization. In particular I am working and studying on issues related to strategic management. I have been giving lectures about Strategic Management, Management and Organization, Human Resources Management, Marketing Management, institutionalization in Family Company, Healthcare Institutions Management, Health Tourism, Introduction to Business since 1993. When I was working at İstanbul Gelişim University, I established the Healthcare Management Department. For four years, I was the head of the department at both the faculty and the health sciences institute. At that time, I have ensured that the department is accredited by AHPGS without any conditions. While I have been working at the university, I also consulting many companies. Therefore, when I teach lessons, I use companies applications. In this way, the efficiency of the course is increasing.
The subject of my master thesis is related to “A Research To Determine The Problems Of Turkish Health Insurance System In Health Institutions”. The Subject of my Ph.D. Thesis is about “ A Research To Determine The Institutionalization Levels Of Small And Medium-Sized Family Companies”. As subjects, my master and doctoral theses are ones of the first theses in Turkey. The first certification program on family business in Turkey, I’ve been organized.
I have written 2 books called “Institutionalization in Growing and Developing Family Companies” and “Board of Directors in Corporate Governance”. I have also written many national and international articles. The subjects of my articles are about family companies and strategic management issues.
I am a good professional speaker. Because I have been working at the University and at the same time I was speaker in the private sector. I can easily integrate academic and practical knowledge; and I can easily convey my knowledge in an understandable and impressive way. I am a professional speaker in terms of institutionalization, succession management, family constitution, bride-groom orientation, professional managers, company main contract in family companies. I am also speaking on board of directors, corporate governance, strategic management, management, human resources management and marketing subjects.
While I was working as a management consultant, I have been forming some systems about corporate level systems like corporate governance, strategic management, competition and new business areas. I have also supporting the company owners to make strategic decisions and identify their company strategies.
Moreover, I am as a human resources consultant and I am developing and forming some systems like strategic human resources planning, performance measurement and evaluation (such as team performance management and 360 degree performance measurement and valuation system); recruitment and replacement; job valuation and wage management as well as career and education management systems.
I made the recruitment negotiations for the employments which positions are Director, Coordinator, General Manager, CEO, Member of Board. I recruited them. I am in charge of arranging and managing strategic alliance meetings. I am moderating some meetings like family council meetings. I formed some systems related to many departments including marketing, human resources, budget, finance and production.
I am the first person as a consultant at family companies in Turkey. I have been working as a family company consultant, at the same time I have been forming some systems related to law, management, finance and psychology. I can give an example of law issues related to the company’s main contract, heritage contract, testament, marriage contract, regulation of share transfer agreement. I have been arranging these contracts together with lawyers. I am also in charge of having a meeting in mission and vision statement.
Furthermore, I have been making the succession plan, coaching the successors. I have also been forming financial systems, profit share / investment policy, family and family company assets management. In addition, I have been creating a family council, a board of directors, and family office, preparing working regulations and managing meetings. I have been measuring and assessing the performance of the board of directors and family council. I have been choosing the independent board member. At the same time, I worked as a board member.
Addition to that, I have been ensuring the development and formed of financial-related and accounting-related systems. I have been ensuring to establish some systems like financial planning and reporting systems, cash flow system, budget system and cost accounting system.
I have also setting up marketing systems such as customer satisfaction, market research, product and market diversty, company and product positioning.
I have been consulting in different sectors for 28 yaers. Therefore, I have the ability to benchmark.
I have a long-term perspective. I have never been wrong in relation with my future predictions and decisions. I am able to predict and manage a lot of business risks. I always strive to achieve my goals. For example, my predictions about finding new products and new markets have always been correct. I am the first in my academic study field. I observe the changes in different environmental conditions very well and how these changes will affect each other correctly. My competence allows to easily see the gaps in the market. I have a convincing communication. My colleagues, students or customers are aware of my knowledge, experience and self-confidence. My ability to organize and manage is high. I can connect people to common goals. I can instruct my subordinates about the things they need to do.
I can see what nobody sees. I don’t like to do what others did before and I don’t repeat myself. I have the ability to comminicate effectively, convince and encourage people. Therefore, I can define my dream job as a job that I can use all my abilities to make discovers, to be a leader and to appeal to the world.
